Home sale and writing
award
The
big news lately is that we sold my little brick cottage
in the woods, the one I lived in alone before Donna Rai’
and I moved to Sharon, in one day, a remarkable feat
since real estate in the Shenango Valley is very much a
buyer’s market these days. I had done some cleaning,
made some repairs, improved the landscaping, and put a
paint job on the house and garage and got the property
looking better than it ever did when I lived there. It’s
a unique place, very private, with lots of woods on all
sides and 3.5 acres. The first person who looked at it
fell in love with the house and setting and bought the
place immediately. So don’t listen to the naysayers who
tell you you’ll never sell your house.
The other news is that Donna Rai’ and I and also Grove
City writer Brad Isles attended the annual Pennsylvania
Outdoor Writers Association awards conference recently
in Butler, PA. We enjoyed seminars on writing and
photography, a breakout meeting at the Butler Hunting
and Fishing Club, and an awards and fundraising banquet.
We outbid a rival at auction for a beautiful painting of
mourning doves on the wing by artist Gerry Putt, and I
received a conservation award for a piece I did last
year about the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s work
in the Allegheny National Forest. That was a nice
surprise. The competition’s fierce.
Good luck out there. And have a great week outdoors
