It was a Super Day
We’d spent the whole day outdoors and probably hiked 2 miles,
getting from one place to another, and now just at dusk
the skies darkened, the wind kicked up in our faces, and
we heard the thunderous sound . . . of 70,000 fans in
the Tampa stadium at the Super Bowl. Yep, Donna Rai and
I actually went this year and witnessed our Steelers
winning their record-setting sixth Lombardi trophy. We
couldn’t really afford it, but, what the heck, it was a
once-in-a-lifetime thing (and also an excuse to get out
of this awful winter weather).
D-Rai and I were in Indianapolis the previous Thursday
at our company headquarters (she works full-time and I
work part-time to supplement my meager writing income).
The company CEO happened to walk by, and being from
Pittsburgh and being a wealthy CEO, he announced that he
was going to make the trip. We laughingly said, “Hey, if
you run into any extra tickets, let us know!”
As luck would have it, he called us that night, and we
quickly arranged airline tickets and called our friends
in St Petersburg, Florida, to see if we could stay with
them. It was a fabulous game and a fabulous experience.
I even watched the halftime show.
So forgive me for not writing about the outdoors this
time and also for missing the month of January with my
“What’s New?” entry. I’ll do a second one later this
month – about the outdoors, I promise – and then be
caught up again.
Our only January trip to camp this year was the Jan
9-11 last weekend of muzzleloader season, and we had
eight guys at camp in blizzard conditions. Brett and
Digital and a couple others managed to get out and hunt
a little, but the rest of us pretty much hunkered down
and enjoyed warmth and camaraderie at camp.
Don’t know if our second annual Coyote Hunt will happen
this month. If it doesn’t, the next big event will be
the March Motorcycle Pete Retreat.
